EHHR Campaign: ‘One pair of shoes for a month’ Week 1

Last week on December 2, one of us decided to support the EHHR Barefoot Campaign and to wear one pair of shoes every day for a month. A week has past and Jessica now shares with you her first week wearing the same pair of shoes. And we can tell you, it wasn’t that ‘easy’!

“Cold. Cold. Cold. Very cold. This week was so cold, my leather boots and my feet suffered a lot! I have never seen so much snow in Paris for years and it was impossible to walk in the streets without risking to twist your ankle or worse… I was cold but this week was my first one supporting the ‘One pair of shoes for a month’ challenge and I couldn’t give up although I wish I could wear my Moon Boots instead! But my friends from the Sama Team were very supportive and this experience gave us the opportunity to discuss about the 1.4 billion people still living in extreme poverty and who can’t afford to buy one pair of shoes. Then I realized my cold week was nothing compared to what these people are living everyday.

On Friday we all lost our shoes for a while to support the Every Human Has Rights Barefoot Campaign. It’s the first time I feel so committed and that I take action. I’m a recent member of this great team and I’m so proud to be part of it. Human Rights Day was yesterday but like Max Dana said: ‘We certainly don’t have to wait for Human Rights Day to fight for Human Rights and to thank the people defending them everyday’. So I will continue to wear this one pair of leather boots until January 2. Be there for my Week2 post next Saturday and I cross my fingers it won’t snow again! :)”

Rendezvous next week for ‘One pair of shoes for a month’ Week 2!
