Art in Norway: A-ha’s Magne ‘Mags’ Furuholmen

Maybe you remember Norwegian band A-ha and their first and biggest hit “Take On Me“? Well, Magne ‘Mags’ Furuholmen is the former guitarist/keyboardist in the famous band from the Eighties. And he is also an artist.

He now goes by the name Magne F and his latest show was due to launch on 1 September. But according to the Art Newspaper Website, the artist had to cancel his provocative show ‘Futura Plus’ which included blood-stained sheets from hospitals, after Norway terror attack which took place on 22 July.

We can read on the website:

Neither Furuholmen, who was previously a member of Norwegian pop group A-ha, nor the gallery, would release images of the withdrawn works, but the artist told The Art Newspaper that “words including ‘death’ and ‘accident’, painted on blood-stained sheets collected from hospital autopsy-rooms and similar… seem inappropriate at this point in time.” He has not decided whether to show the works at a future date, and did not want to elaborate further about their content. Instead the gallery, co-owned by Stopler, Furuholmen and the Norwegian dealer Hugo Opdahl, is showing a group of large-scale butterfly prints by Damien Hirst, “The Souls” (to 2 October).

Magne F’s work (canvas, ceramics, prints, glass) can be seen on his website.
