What’s your sign? Minn. prof suggests it’s off
A Minneapolis astronomy professor says he’s stunned by the attention he’s getting for suggesting the signs of the zodiac are all wrong. Parke Kunkle said in a newspaper interview that the Earth’s wobbly orbit means it’s no longer aligned to the stars in the same way as when the signs of the zodiac were first conceived. He said that means when astrologers say the sun is in Pisces, it’s really in Aquarius, and so on…

Marine Le Pen ‘chosen to lead France’s National Front’
France’s far right National Front has chosen Marine Le Pen as its new leader, replacing her father Jean-Marie Le Pen, party officials say. The results will be officially announced on Sunday, but party sources said she had secured about two-thirds of members’ votes. Mr Le Pen is stepping down after leading the ultra-nationalist party, which he founded, for almost 40 years. In 2002 he came a shock second in the first round…

Obama prepares to engage China on human rights as Pres. Hu visits next week
President Obama is planning to refocus attention on China’s record of suppressing free speech and political freedom in the coming weeks, despite the risk of further destabilizing an important relationship after a contentious year. After elevating human rights as a guiding principle of his foreign policy at the United Nations last fall, Obama has been looking for ways to engage China’s leaders on the issue without undermining…

Insiders Say Facebook’s Goal Is To Be The First TRILLION Dollar Company
Goldman Sachs clients are buying $1.5 billion worth of Facebook stock at a $50 billion valuation. Yesterday, Wedbush analyst Lou Kerner said that if Facebook were a public company, it would be valued closer to $100 billion right now. On the secondary markets, accredited investors are actually buying Facebook stock at much steeper implied valuations – sometimes higher than even $124 billion. Crazy numbers right? Wait till you…

Israel Tests on Worm Called Crucial in Iran Nuclear Delay
The Dimona complex in the Negev desert is famous as the heavily guarded heart of Israel’s never-acknowledged nuclear arms program, where neat rows of factories make atomic fuel for the arsenal. Over the past two years, according to intelligence and military experts familiar with its operations, Dimona has taken on a new, equally secret role — as a critical testing ground in a joint American and Israeli effort to undermine…

China Leader’s Limits Come Into Focus as U.S. Visit Nears
With President Hu Jintao at the helm, China has become a $5 trillion industrial colossus, a growing military force, and, it sometimes appears, a model of authoritarian decisiveness, navigating out of the global financial crisis and sealing its position as the world’s fastest rising power. But as Mr. Hu prepares to visit Washington this week in an attempt to defuse tensions with the United States, Obama administration…

Facebook Starts Sharing Your Home Address, Phone Number With Developers
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said that his company’s mission is to “make the world more open and connected.” The quest for greater openness now involves sharing Facebook users’ home addresses and mobile phone numbers with the third-party developers that create Facebook apps. In other words, a Facebook app can now access your address and phone number, though that application or website can only obtain…
