A month ago, we posted an article titled: The (new) blood diamonds: it ain’t a movie… and we received many emails about it. The situation in Congo is dangerous and we think it’s important to raise awareness about it.
John Prendergast is co-founder of the project Enough at the Center for American Progress, and his article: The new blood diamonds was published on the Boston Globe. It was a month ago and we are still talking about the situation at the Sama Office with always the same question: “What we can do, individually?”
That’s also what our Sama-readers kept asking in their comments and maybe we have found a way for you to support the cause: “Dialogue, Start One… Activism you can wear. Raise awareness in style with our activist t-shirts, jewelry and bags“. The Enough Project has partnered with Dialogue to produce RAISE Hope for Congo t-shirts and jewelry.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each (15%) will support the RAISE Hope for Congo campaign. So now, from your sofa at home or from your office, you can support the RAISE Hope for Congo campaign. You can click here to order the t-shirt.
But the Enough Project and its RAISE Hope for Congo campaign is not the only organization trying to raise awareness about Congo. N’Gaye, a regular reader of the Sama Gazette, sent us an email about Children Mending Hearts. N’Gaye is from Congo and he heard about the organization from a related parent still living in the country.
He told us Children Mending Hearts did good out there, and provided a link to the website. Mission statement: “Children Mending Hearts is a global arts exchange between at-risk children in America and children living in conflict zones that educates, empowers and encourages children and gives them a voice, inspiring them to a sense of empathy and desire for peace“.
Maybe we will dedicate a post to this organization later, but in the meantime, if you still wonder how to support these causes as an individual, we invite you to read Max Dana‘s post published on her Blog almost 2 years ago: Tall oaks from little acorns grow. Simple and motivating.
