Many events will take place on January 9th to support Sudan365: A Beat For Peace. If you don’t know what this special day is about, here is more information coming from the Save Darfur Website:
A global day of action on Sudan will take place on January 9th, 2010, marking the fifth anniversary of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between North and South Sudan and one year out from the referendum that will determine whether the Southern region of Sudan will separate from the North. With many highly contentious issues still to be resolved, with growing violence in the South and unresolved conflict in Darfur, there is a real risk of a return to widespread conflict that could destabilize the entire region and place civilians in grave danger. On January 9th, groups from across the world will join together and call on their leaders to take urgent diplomatic action to prevent a return to violence in Sudan.
Events are being held in Mali, Togo, Benin, Sierra Leone, Senegal, Kenya, London, Edinburgh, Italy, Norway, New Zealand, Cairo and even in France. On the occasion of this global day of action on Sudan, Collective Darfur Urgency‘s President, Jacky Mamou, organizes an event in Paris on Saturday, January 9 (23, rue Danielle Casanova, 75001 Paris – 7:30 PM). There will be a 35 Euros admission fee at the door (25 Euros for students) aimed to support the Collective in its actions to raise awareness about the plight in Darfur, help the International Criminal Court and give a hand to Darfur refugees. Several French personalities will attend the event: Bernard-Henri Levy (philosopher), Philippe Starck (designer), Ivan Levaï (journalist), André Glucksmann (philosopher), Romain Goupil (director/screenwriter and activist), Nathalie Dessay (French coloratura soprano) and many others. More details and contact information on this page (French only).
The Collective Darfur Urgency is very active in France and its President, Jacky Mamou, is among the signers of the “60 Signers for the 60th Anniversary” Initiative launched by Max Dana in December 2008.
Whether the event is affiliated or not to the Sudan365: A Beat For Peace from the Save Darfur Coalition, the important is to stay mobilized regarding the situation of the thousands of refugees surviving in the camps in Darfur. We must not look away.
