Mapendo International was founded to protect and care for at-risk refugees in Africa and we want to introduce you to the organization if you don’t know it already. According to Wikipedia, Mapendo was founded in 2003 by Sasha Chanoff and Dr. John Wagacha Burton. While conducting refugee rescue operations with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Sasha became aware of the unseen and therefore unmet needs of the many refugees living in urban settings.
Sasha’s encounter with a refugee named Rose Mapendo was the catalyst to the creation of the organization… Max Dana mentioned Rose Mapendo in her post: International Women’s Day: Extraordinary Women, and you can read all about Rose Mapendo’s story on this page.
Mapendo – Mission Statement (read more here):

This commitment is expressed through targeting individuals, families and groups of people overlooked by existing aid programs. Mapendo strives to alleviate human suffering, to protect life and health, and to raise awareness for these vulnerable people.
